You will love it if:
All of these workouts are on a beginning level and include only low and no impact moves, so they’re easy on your joints. You can add ankle and handweights to just about any of the videos to increase the difficulty level and get a more intermediate level workout. Each workout is done in a different studio, and Austin is usually accompanied by 2 female actresses who do the workout with her. From the title menu, you can either select a single workout or select several to play in a series. You can also choose to play the workouts with music and instructions or music only.
Austin, the trainer, is an interesting character. She is very encouraging and talkative, so much so that her enthusiasm often seems a bit fake. And she opens her eyes so wide while attempting to encourage that it’s sometimes a little scary. Her voice is a little bit scratchy (like she used to smoke or something), and she pretty much talks nonstop. She is so busy encouraging you that I’m not sure when she has time to breath! “Wonderful! Look great in those jeans! A great way to tone that bottom half!” etc. Austin’s over-enthusiasm and bubbly personality totally remind me of a kindergarten teacher, and she sort of grows on me with time.
Most of the workouts don’t require any equipment, but you will want a soft surface of mat since all but one of the workouts (Personal Training System-Lower Body High Intensity) includes mat work. Power Zone Ultimate Workout-Lower Body requires a “Powerband” (resistance band or tubing that is about 6 feet long) and Hit the Spot Core-Core & Buns requires a stability ball and handweights. I, personally, preferred to skip the powerband and use ankle and handweights instead. Ankle and/or handweights can be added to pretty much any of the workouts to make them more challenging.
If you can fit a yoga mat on the floor, you’ll probably have enough room to do these workouts.
Austin’s instructions are good and the workouts are pretty basic, so anyone can try these workouts regardless of fitness level.
What NOT to Expect
Don’t expect a challenging cardio workout or to get super powerful legs that allow you to leap over buildings or kick bullies to the curb. These workouts are meant for toning. They will probably make you look better in your jeans, but they definitely won’t turn you into a superathlete (or a superhero).
