Core Fusion: Thighs & Glutes
with trainer Fred DeVito and Elisabeth Halfpapp
You will love it if:
The great thing about core fusion workouts is that they use low impact, creative movements to tone muscles that rarely get toned. They are great for injury prevention and are appropriate for a variety of fitness levels. You can work at a beginning level or an intermediate level depending on your range of motion, the size of the weights you use, and/or how much you squeeze certain muscle groups while working out.
This husband and wife team completes each of the workouts together, without talking, then add dubbed over instructions to the video clip. The studio that they do the workouts in is pretty dark which makes it difficult to tell exactly what they are doing for each movement. The dark tones and music also add a calming mood to the workout. Each workout begins with a 1 minute long marching warm up. You have the option of playing the five 10 minute leg workouts in a row or selecting workouts individually. You can also play the workouts with music and instruction or with music only.
You will definitely want to do these workouts on a yoga mat or soft carper since there is a lot of standing on the toes and kneeling—this becomes painful quickly without a soft surface! Most of the workouts on the video also require a chair. Several use a rolled up towel or yoga block, but it is only needed for stretching except in the Parallel Thigh video. One of the bonus videos (Upper Body Sculpt) also uses a set of small handweights.
You should be able to lay down with your hands stretched above you head and stretched out to your sides. You will also need ceiling height to swing your arms above your head during the warm-up.
If you can stand comfortably for 10 minutes, you will be able to try any of these workouts by varying your range of motion to fit your specific fitness level. Some of the workouts require a bit of flexibility, but the instructors show modified versions for those with limited flexibility.
What NOT to Expect
This video focuses on toning muscles—especially your core muscles and other muscles that can help prevent athletic injuries. It is not in any way a cardiovascular video, so do not expect your heart rate to increase by much while doing these workouts. You should also not expect to have bulging biceps, quadriceps, or any other muscles by doing these workouts.
