Winsor Pilates: Bun & Thigh Sculpting

You will love it if:
This is a fairly traditional Pilates mat workout but includes only those movements that work your glutes, inner thighs, and outer thighs. Winsor does not show a modified version in this workout, but it is fairly simple and accessible for beginners already. However, the workout requires some flexibility and an awareness of how to contract your muscles while working them, which may make it difficult to get the full effect of the workout at first. But as your flexibility and form improve and you learn how to contract the right muscles while performing the movements, the workout will become more difficult. Unlike some other workouts, this workout will actually become more challenging as you practice and your form improves—if it doesn’t seem at all difficult when you first start, be patient. This video is great if you have a flat or pear-shaped bootie and want to give it some roundness or lift.
As in all of her videos, Winsor does a great job of describing proper form. She has a warm, genuine, and encouraging personality that is pleasant to work out with. Be careful if purchasing this DVD. There are two similarly named DVDs: Winsor Pilates: Bun & Thigh Sculpting - Sculpt Your Body Slim and Winsor Pilates: Power Sculpting with Resistance - Buns & Thighs. They are sometimes both referred to simply as “Winsor Pilates: Buns & Thighs.” Be careful not to get the two DVDs confused if you plan to buy one of these DVDs. The DVD I am reviewing here--Sculpt Your Body Slim—requires no equipment while the Power Sculpting with Resistance DVD requires a resistance band.
The only equipment used in these videos is your body! It is an ideal workout to take with you when you travel. However, you will want a soft rug or workout mat to perform the workouts on since you will be lying on your back and/or side for each of the workouts.
The workouts require very little space. If you can lie down on your back and extend your arms overhead and out to the sides, you will have enough space to complete this workout.
Individuals of all fitness levels will be able to try this program. Winsor does a good job of demonstrating and explaining proper form so you can do the movements safely for your current level of fitness.
What NOT to Expect
Do not expect to get a cardiovascular workout or bulging biceps. Pilates is mat work done from a lying, seated, or kneeling position. It focuses on strengthening the butt, hip, back, and abdominal muscles to improve posture and prevent injury. Since it is a toning video that is done in a slow, controlled manor, your breathing will also be slow and controlled and your heart rate will increase only slightly during this workout. This video in particular focuses on the butt, hip, and thigh muscles, not the abdominals.
How does Winsor Pilates: Bun & Thigh Sculpting compare to other similar programs?
Winsor Pilates: Bun & Thigh Sculpting is a great, no impact butt and thigh workout for toning and rounding your bootie. Another video that works your hips and gluteals and is great for injury prevention in Core Fusion: Thighs & Glutes. It is not a Pilates video, but it is great for toning muscles that are used in many different forms of aerobic exercise in order to improve athletic performance and prevent injury. If you want to stick with Pilates, but want a workout that targets the abdominals instead of the gluteals, try one of the other Pilates videos--Winsor Pilates Basic 3 DVD Set and Maintenance Pilates for Weight Loss are both good DVDs. If you are looking for some shorter (10 minutes each) butt workouts that are good for beginners, you might try Best Bun & Leg Shapers. For a longer, more challenging butt and thigh workout, Element Ballet Conditioning might be a good choice. If you want a more challenging butt workout that also includes cardio and will help you burn fat, try Killer Buns & Thighs or Brazil Butt Lift—they are some of the most challenging bootie toning workouts on the market.
